Udupi : The Komu Sauharda Vedike protested outside the Udupi DC office on Wednesday opposing the stand of the Ramakunjeshwara Degree College in Ramakunj of Uppinangady against permitting Muslim students wearing head scarves into the college. It may be recalled here that the students are on strike since the past several days seeking entry into the college with head scarves on, a demand which has been turned down by the college management.
Addressing the agitators in front of the DC office, Komu Sauharda Vedike District Unit President G Rajashekhar, strongly condemning the move of the college management at a time when every citizen has the right to follow the religion and customs of his or her choice. He also urged the state governor to intervene and settle the impasse.
Wafa Sultana from Girls Islamic Organisation Karkala,leaders of the vedike K. Phaniraj and Dinaker Bengre, DSS leader Jayan Malpe, president of the Vicharawadi Vedike Gopal B. Shetty, and others were present.
A memorandum was also forwarded to the state governor through the tahsildar on the occasion.
