Karkala: Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy on Sunday has organised ‘Konkani Manyata Divas – 2016’, a silver jubilee celebration of including Konkani in eighth schedule of the constitution at SVT Educational Institutions.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Whip of Opposition in state assembly and MLA, V Sunil Kumar said that unity in diversity is the uniqueness of India. Though there are several cultures and languages are present in India, all the cultures and languages have been fused together to form one nation.
“Regional culture and society influences a language. Youngsters should get involved in doing new experiments in the field of language. It is better to term the relationships in mother tongue, than using in English,” he said.
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President, Roy Castelino said that Konkani is the mother tongue Muslims, Hindus and Christians. Many communities speak Konkani.
“We all are Indians first then Kannadigas and then Konkani – speaking people,” he added.
Mitchell Queeny D’Costa, who secured highest ranking in UPSC examination, Shreevidya Bhat and Sanjana Acharya, who scored highest marks in SSLC examination, Paul Moras, leader f Konkani movement, Rajesh Prabhu, a young budding talent and Dr Raghavendra Pai, international Yoga Guru were felicitated on the occasion.
Managing trustee of Venkataramana Temple, Jagadish Nayak, Priest, Fr Josvi Fernandes, Prescilla D’Souza, Aveline D’Souza, K P Shenoy and others were present.
