Mangalore, Aug 20: The Konkani Manyata Divas was organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy held at Town Hall on Aug 20, Friday to honour the day on which Konkani was included in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, MLA Yogish Bhat said that the government has allocated the amount of Rs. 40 lakh this year including Rs 5 lakh for research activities. The konkani has also included as an academic subject in the schools as initiated by the government.
Registrar of Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, S. H. Shivarudrappa addressed the gathering and conducted various cultural competitions.
Mr. Kundapura Narayana Kharvi, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy conferred awards on all the 672 winners.
Dr. Jayavantha Nayak, associate Professor of Mangalore University, Upendra Babu, general manager of Karnataka Bank, Mangalpadi Namdev Shenoy, member convener of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Pundalik Marate, member of the academy were present on the occasion.
