Mangaluru : The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy awards for 2015 have been announced.
The awards have been announced in three categories, including honorary awards, book awards and ‘Yuva Puraskar’ (youth awards).
Ramachandra M Shet (Konkani language and literature), Kasaragod Chinna (Konkani art) and Alu Peelu Marathi (Konkani folk) have been chosen for the honorary awards.
Om Ganesh Uppunda (for the translation of ‘Bayila Bhade Bayila’), Rony Arun (for the research study book ‘Tho’ kanatullo Zuzari’) and Fr Denis Castelino (for the collection of Konkani articles titled ‘Dalit’) have been chosen for the book awards.
Rajaram Prabhu (music), Nasrullah Askeri (sports) and Anjali Wilson Vaz (dance) would be conferred the youth awards.
S M Khalil, Pradeep G Pai and George Fernandes would be honoured with special recognition awards for their achievements in their respective fields.
The honorary award, comprises a cash prize, shawl and citation while the book award carries a cash prize and citation. There would be no cash prize for the youth awards, an academy release said.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would present the awards at a function to be held on March 6 at Nagayakshe Sabha Bhavan at Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada during the two-day Konkani Utsav, commencing on March 5.
