Mangalore : Under the aegis of CPM, six Koraga families, who were evicted from their land for the B C Road-Mangalore four-lane works project in 2010, staged a indefinite protest in front of Girijana Upayojana Kacheri at Kottara on Aug 12, Monday
Addressing the protesters, CPM Leader Vasanth Achari said that the Koraga families who had vacated their land for the development work of the city were cheated. The families were deprived from the assured land and the compensation amount too.
He also said that before vacating the land, the authorities had assured to give five cents of land to each family at Padau village, but District Administration did not take any action in this regard.
They has not even followed the direction of National ST Commission, who had ordered them to pay the rent of the house of the families till they are sanctioned with permanent sites. Hence the authorities must sanction the permanent land to the families and refund the house rent paid in last few years.
CPM leader Sunil Kumar Bajal and others were present.
