Mangalore : The District Committee of Koragas staged a protest in front of the DC office in Mangalore on February 7, Thursday demanding justice in several cases of atrocities on the members of the community.
The agitators pointed out that the community members were subject to injustice since long and cited several cases like the suspicious death of Leela of Kotatattu in Kundapur, Sarojini rape and murder case at Addoor, suspicious death of Geeta of Maadavu and many more.
Some of the demands placed forth by the agitators include immediate arrest of the accused in the case of the rape of Vanitha, daughter of Chaniya Koraga of Madappady village in Sullia taluk. The Samithi also alleged that members of the Committee were ill-treated by not even summoning to the office of the DSP Sadananda Varnekar when the former had been to his office to seek justice in the case. It also alleged that the officer directed the samithi itself to trap the accused.
The Samithi also demanded a fresh investigation into the suspicious death of Geetha, daughter of Chaniya Koraga of Maadavu Janatha colony in Kayyur village of Puttur taluk.
Also steps were urged to prevent atrocities on members of the community. Several office bearers and members of the committee took part in the protest.
