Kundapura : BJP member Kota Srinivas Poojary appointed as opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council.
Poojary, a former minister who hails from Dakshina Kannada district, as its floor leader in the Upper House. Being the leader of the principal Oppositon party in the House, Poojary will be declared the leader of the Opposition. BJP general secretary Aravind Limbavali made this announcement after state BJP core committee meeting chaired by party sate president B S Yeddyurappa.
Speaking to reporters, Limbavali also said that MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath would replace former MLC Ganesh Karnik as the chief whip in the Council. Poojary, a two-time MLC, had served as the Muzrai minister in the previous BJP government. He belongs to the the backward Billava community. He will be replacing
K S Eshwarappa as the leader of the Opposition in the Upper House. Eshwarappa, also a backward classes leader belonging to the Kuruba community, was recently elected an MLA from Shimoga City seat.
Party MLCs Arun Shahpur, Raghunath Rao Malkapure and Ayanur Manjunath too had lobbied for the post. The party, however chose to go with Poojary.
