Mangalore: The members of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) demanded sites and home for the homeless in the protest organized in front of the Taluk Panchayath office on Nov 5, Monday.
Addressing the protestors, K. R. Shriyan, president of KPRS said that along with the price hike in the commodity, the price for land also has gone up, making common people to lead a difficult life.
He also said that the government and MCC have made the life of poor people to miserable. They cannot purchase the land and construct the house in reality, but can only dream it. The government is giving the government land to the private companies and businessmen and the beneficiaries are still living in small huts from 15 years.
The government is not allowing live the poor people in peace by giving the land to them. The poor who have constructed house in government land, have not yet received electricity connection, door number and ration cards. Hence the government must give the documents to these people, he urged.
The families, whose application for land rights were given was rejected, hence they must be immediate right for their land. Later the protestors were arrested by the Pandeshwar Police and taken to station.
KPRS General Secretary Yadav Shetty, Secretary Ashok Shetty and K. Krishnappa Salian, president of Niveshana Rahita Horata Samithi and others participated in the protest.
