DK incharge Minister, Krishna J. Palemar.
Mangalore: Actually it is Kudremukh as an iron ore mining area, discarded now, with a whole city built at Kalasa, the mining industry helped to enliven, but facing desolation now, it is that we have in mind, but now that DK Minister incharge of ports, environment organic materials and Muzrai departments by name Krishna J. Palemar (of Land Links Colony) has come into prominence among Mangalore MPs / MLAs we cannot ignore him anymore as a celebrity.
A month earlier, he was involved in a spat with JD-S leader Nanaiah in the legislature over an officer of Forests, called Gokul, in the case of hidden iron ore deposits meant for export to China but partly seized by Gokul on the instruction of the Lokayukta, being investigated.
Subsequently, Palemar was involved in some sand smuggling cases from Mangalore to Kerala by various builders. The sand transportation became a big issue even on his land at Ladyhill.
DK DC (then), V. Ponnuraj, banned sand – mining across the coastal states /districts without permits.
Palemar came through both issues (iron ore export and sand transportation across Karnataka border to Kerala) unscathed and became a weighty Minister carrying more portfolios.
But he is now holding the dreaded Muzrai card in his hands. He has freed Udupi Math and Sri Krishna Temple from Muzrai custody, making them autonomous. He has praised the Bhajan-singers, in and around temples. He sat silent at a Town Hall function, where dancers and singers celebrated a 15 year existence of a Dance school recently..
He has became a senior MLA and a Minister to watch, on the coastal district of DK, if not the entire west coast of Karnataka, where Dr. V.S. Acharya also counts. The last named lost his Home Ministership when he held additional charge of Muzrai from an ousted Minister named Krishnaiah Shetty, who turned a rebel.
Now will Palemar lose his post, after Muzrai was given to him? Remember B. Nagaraj Shetty of CRZ, who lost an election after he had the Muzrai on hand.
Palemar has not lost an election since 2004 and has been Minister under BJP rule. But what port development has he undertaken, Bhatkal, Tadadi or Gangolly? He has a heavy load on his back. Let us wish him strength.
