Mangaluru: World Alzheimer’s Month programme organised by People’s Association for Geriatric Empowerment (PAGE), was inaugurated by former minister Krishna J Palemar at Mangaluru Town Hall, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion he said that according to the doctors there is no proper cure for this disease, but love and affection towards the patients can help them to come over it.
“Many people are not aware of this disease and it is needed to educate the people regarding this. Youngsters have adapted Maggi concept and hates to attend the public gatherings. They are being westernised and forgetting our culture and tradition. They should maintain a good relationship with elders and should respect elders, which will help them to lead a satisfied life,” he said.
A care giving guide was released by Pro Chancellor of Nitte University Dr Shantaram Shetty during the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Dr Surendra Shetty, Pro Chancellor of Manipal University said that as the life expectancy of the elders have been increased to 65%, it becomes necessary to control Alzheimer at the early stage only.
MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, Dr Olinda Pereira, Sunder Poojary and others were present.
