Mangaluru : Krupa Alva’s appointment as the Chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has come as surprise for local Congress workers.
Ms. Alva, wife of social worker Amar Alva who was murdered in 1992, has been with the party for nearly a decade. “She has not been an active member of the party and has not been associated with our women’s wing,” said a spokesperson of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the Congress. Ms. Alva was recently nominated as secretary of the district party unit. “There are more qualified active party workers than Ms. Alva for this post,” the spokesperson said.
Ms. Alva entered social service through Lions Club. She served as district governor of the Lions Club 324 D4 District for a few years.
