Mangalore: The Kannada Sahitya Parishat elections all over the state in 30 districts will be held on April 29, Sunday, if there are 2 or more candidates.
In Mangalore, it is triangular contest, with Pradeep K. Kalkura, the favourite, Harish Bantwal, a journalist, and M. Sarvottam Kanchan, a former Taluk KSP Chief backed by HK Punarooru to oust Kalkura. Elections are held every 3 years to the Central KSP.
There is a likelihood of Harish backing out of contest altogether by Saturday.
Kalkura held a press meet at the Hotel Janata near TMA Pai Centre on Friday, in city to explain why he was in the arena of contest. He wanted to form student units of KSP to popularise usage of Kannada and literary writings.
S. Kanchan speaking at Press Club earlier on told that people wanted a change and no annual meetings were held for 11 years as there was no DK office for the local unit. There was a lack of transparency in Parishad work done.
It could be a straight fight between these two gladiators, facing elections on Sunday. Around 1000 members are voters.
