Udupi: a new award instituted by Kannada Sahitya Parishat to honour upcoming writers in literature, has been constituted and will be conferred on selected person in November with a cash prize of Rs. 1,11,111 and mementoes, declared Nallur Prasad, out going President of Kannada Sahitya Parishat here, on Saturday at the end of a 2-day conference of KSP office-bearers.
This award is given purely on merit basis of Rs.20 lakh. The writer chosen will be in the age group of 40 to 45 years. An amount of Rs. 20 lakh is deposited in account for the purpose, with a committee formed to pick the candidate, Prasad informed the press.
The 78th annual conference of KSP will be held in Gangavathi in Raichur district. The president of this convention will be decided in October by CEC.
The state is likely to realize Rs.1crore and may be asked for extra funds.
He explained the several programmes being taken up by the KSP to develop Kannada usage in many ways, as in the Grama Siri and PG diploma courses.
