Mangalore: Mangalore Central Committee (of Civilians) and several other organisations from various fields representing Mangalore citizens, have conducted a public rally, demanding release of innocent persons jailed for long years, and seeking suitable rehabilitation of such people, and asking the Indian Govt to order a CBI enquiry into the 2008 attacks on various churches. A letter signed by local persons has been address to the President of India, in Kannada, with copies to prime minister, Union Home Minister and Karanataka Governor, besides Chief justice of Karnataka High Court, and sent to them.
The Committee members organised a rally at the DCO gates this afternoon (Feb11), to protest against a series of Bomb attacks and devastation in Ajmer, Malegaon, Hyderabad and other such places where Muslim youths were rounded up, given violent third degree treatment and sent to jail for years, it was alleged.
It was stated by Speakers at the rally before DCO gates on Friday (4pm) that they had passed certain resolutions in that public show.
The resolutions demanded that-
a) Innocent persons languishing in jails without any cases against them, should be freed at once.
b) They should be compensated for the violent treatments given to them and allow them to lead a decent life now.
c) All enquiry officers (police or otherwise) should be subjected to disciplinary action for their crimes against humanity. The violent attacks should be stopped forthwith.
d) 5 Muslim youths arrested two years ago in the name of terrorism from DK dt, have not been charged by Mumbai police, nor cases were registered against them. They should be released immediately. Their families should be saved.
e) On church attacks, the Somashekhar Commission has not done justice in its report. The entire case should be transferred to CBI for proper enquiry.
The memorandum does not contain any names but only signatures collected by the so-called Central Committee.
