Mangalore : The burqa is once again in the news. The Kukke Shri Subramanyeshwara (KSS) College at Subrahamanya run by Kukke Subrahmanya temple administration has decided to ban burqa on its campus.
The management has already directed students to remove burqa before entering the college campus. Of the over 1000 student strength of the college, only a handful are Muslim and reports state there are at least 15 Muslim female students who will now have to leave their burqa behind before entering the campus.
However, Vimala Rangayya, a taluk panchayat is not happy with the decision of the college management and said there would be a protest if the college did not revoke the ban.
But, Venkat Dambekodi, Sullia Mandal BJP President has pledged his full support to the decision of the Congress managements and said the Congress was trying to create confusion. Speaking on behalf of the Temple management, he said the decision was not taken at the behest of any political party.
