Subrahmanya : The Kumaradhara Bridge a vital link to the famous pilgrim shrine of Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple was submerged on July 19, Friday afternoon, landing several people including school going children in trouble. They remained stranded there for several hours.
Finally Sullia MLA S Angara made arrangements for special KSRTC buses to drop the stranded kids home via Panja.
The devotees visiting the famous shrine were also put to a lot of inconvenience due to the submerging of the bridge. However, there were fewer number of devotees in the temple on Friday being Ekadashi compared to other days. But the devotees coming from several far off places and those who had come by train and landed at Nettana Railway station were the worst hit.
Electricity supply was also affected at several places. Tree branches fell on cables cutting off power connections. In some places trees fell on road disrupting traffic as well as power connection. Earlier there were complaints that the MESCOM Staff were not willing to take up repair works fearing elephant menace in the area. The patrol vehicle was also not at the spot.
