Bangalore : Accusing the ruling Congress of having a confrontation among leaders within party, Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Assembly H D Kumaraswamy alleged that the new government had got into a ‘comatose state’ at the very beginning of its regime under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Participating in a “meet the press” programme of the Bangalore Reporters Guild and the Press Club of Bangalore, the Janata Dal (S) state President said though he had decided to provide a grace period of six months to the new government, its act and deed was forcing him to criticise various decisions.
The former chief minister squarely alleged that Mr Siddaramaiah was announcing decisions unilaterally without looking into the consequences and cited the examples of announcing the introduction of Re one per kg rice for BPL families from June 1 on the day he took over, but the scheme is still to see the light of the day.
Similarly, the government also retraced its step with regard to supply of milk to school children. Initially it said students up to tenth standard would be covered, but now it has been reduced to those studying up to fifth standard.
He said the need for a coordination committee of party members and those in the government was unheard of in the past.
Such committees are prevalent only in coalition set ups, and this is a new precedent in the state he said.
‘Perhaps it may be construed as a coalition government between the Congress and the Group of Janata Parivar and hence the coordination committee is being contemplated,’ he ridiculed.
He also came down heavily on the government’s delay in starting the counselling for professional college admissions stating that the government was dilly dallying mostly for the reason that Congress leaders were running a large number of such professional colleges.
