Mangaluru : As many as eight children, including six boys and two girls, were killed in a horrific accident on Tuesday morning at Trasi village, coming under Gangolli police station limits, Kumdapur taluk of Udupi district.
According to preliminary reports, a total of 16 children, all aged between seven years and 13 years, were on their way to school in Trasi village in an Omni van when a private express bus collided with it. It is said that the bus was coming from Bhatkal and going towards Kundapur. The accident took place at a junction just a few metres away from the school, eye witnesses said.
Of the 16 children in the Omni van, eight were killed on the spot. Six children are currently undergoing treatment at the paediatric ICU in Kasturba Hospital at Manipal. The driver of the Omni van is being treated at the trauma centre in the same hospital. More details are awaited.
