Kundapur : A complaint was filed in the police station here,about girl students, followed on a deserted road by four unidentified young men, and sexually harassed them and were also passing lewd remarks.
On Thursday July 30 evening, the incident occurred on Doopadakatte Halnadu road, when three girl students of a college were walking through a way leading to their houses after alighting from a bus. Four youth, who came in two motor bikes, not only sexually harassed these girls, but also used obscene words besides posing threats to them, if they ever thought of making a complaint against them.
The Three girl students are from government junior college in the town and were closely and regularly followed by four youngsters in two bikes closely. The youngsters slowly started getting into the act of brushing their bodies against the girls from behind. They were also blocking their students path with their motor bikes, making the girls to stop and force them to indulge in conversation for about one and half km. One of the girls warned the youth of hitting them with her footwear, after which the youth toned down their harassment. However, after this girl left towards her home, they started to harass the other two girls, and after threatening, questioned them about the girl who bolding reacted to them. When the girls were nearing their home, the bike-borne youngsters fled away, it is said.
After reaching their home the girls explained what they experienced. Their parents filed a complaint with the police and sub-inspector, Nassir Hussain, visited homes of the girl students, investigated and collected details about the identity of the youngsters, the registration numbers of their motor bikes..
In the past there had been complaints of several such gangs of youths involved in harassment of girls and women in a few roads in this region including the one which leads to Ganapathi temple. These gangs it is stated have become active, recently, and once again, creating an atmosphere of fear from hassle free movement of girl students and women. Bajrang Dal, convener Dinesh Achar said that young men roaming around even during the day have indulged regularly in harassing girls in the area, which has become a sort of menace and have given rise to insecure feeling among them..
Santosh Kumar,Vice President, Gram panchayat, warned that a resolution will be passed suitably at the Panchayat meeting, and on behalf of the Panchayat, and a police complaint would be filed, seeking suitable action against those indulging in such activities. The Vice President also said, agitation for strong reforms would be undertaken, by villages, if such instances recur.
