Kundapur: the constriction work in the proposed Kundapur-Kodi bridge, hanging fire for the last 2 decades or more and given up almost as lost, as been taken up once again by the new congress Govt. in all enthusiasm weighing popular concerns on the eve of Lok Sabha elections, and this bridge could become a reality to the voters by the end of current year (2014).
The public works department had called for tender of Rs 4 crore and it has been awarded to Philip D’ Costa. Pillars for 120 meter long and seven and a half meter wide bridge are being constructed.
There will be 7 pillars for this bridge taking note of future needs in decades to come. The PWD officials have to certify the work that has been started already but requires further sanctions in allotments of money and materials to continue the various stages of the construction of the bridge.
Thanks to Udupi MP Jayaprakash Hegde and Kundapur MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty the long awaited bridge is now taking share in view of the political pressures they brought upon the Govt. this year.
All these years Kodi remained separated from Kundapur in spite of being only a kilometer or so away with the river in between which had to the cr4ossed in a distance of 10 kilometers to reach Kodi. But in 2015 when the bridge will be ready it opens up a new vista for tourism, educat5ional facilities and commerce for the people of both Kodi and Kundapur, which has improved in many ways living beghind Kodi all these years.
So near, yet so far has been the story of Kodi related to Kundapur town like a poor relative.
