Bantwal :  A construction worker identified as Sharath (22) from Kakkepadavu lost his life when there was a landslip at the construction site where he was working at BC Road on January 28, Monday.

The work of a convention hall was underway in front of Chandika Parameshwari Temple and Sharath along with three other workers namely Nitish, Harish and Achyutha was engaged in pillar installation works when the landslide took place. If others managed to escape, Sharath was buried in the earth and his body was retrieved after nearly one and a half hours of effort by the police and fire service personnel.

It is alleged that the failure of the construction company to take adequate precautionary measures, had led to the tragedy.

The ambulance which had arrived on getting information regarding the mishap had however disappeared by the time Sharath’s body was recovered. The body was later taken to the hospital in police jeep. Sharath, the eldest son of Ramanna and Bhavani had quit school after seventh standard to support family, he has two sisters who are studying in school.

A large crowd had gathered at the site of the mishap.
