Bantwal : The government speaks much about improving conditions at government schools and also providing adequate teaching staff. But the reality is stark contradicting.
In one example, the Karla Government Lower Primary School at Perne Gram Panchayat has 99 students from Class I to VII but has only two teachers who have to virtually struggle to conduct classes and do other managerial works of the school including the mid-day meal scheme.
The school has some good facilities but lacks adequate number of classrooms and teachers. It has a headmistress Varijakshi and an assistant teacher Babu Gowda. On Monday even Varijakshi was absent on an official leave when Babu Gowda had a tough time. Some students themselves have to handle classes on many occasions and be teachers to their own class mates.
The Block Education Officer reacting to the problem said steps would be taken to appoint guest teachers to schools facing shortage of teaching staff. He also assured to appoint teachers to the Karla school on a priority basis.
