Mangaluru : Sabitha Gundmi, who has the credit of being the first woman from Koraga community to become an Assistant Professor, entered into wedlock with lecturer Dinakar, at a simple marriage function in Kenjur in Udupi on Ambedkar Jayanthi Day on Tuesday.
The function was held in a private hotel in the presence of relatives and friends of the couple. Ambedkar Jayanthi was celebrated at 10.30 am and marriage rituals held at 12.30 in the noon.
Sabitha is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in Mangalore University and has been serving from the last one and a half year. Dinakar is a guest lecturer in the department of Commerce in the same university.
Sabitha and Dinesh knew each other for the last 9 years. Dinakar is a physically challenged person and his left leg has been affected by polio. But, Sabitha, overlooking his disability, has passed a strong message to society that qualities of a person, surpasses one’s physical constraints.
Sabitha attained her post graduation in sociology through hard work, despite financial barriers. She has successfully cleared the National Eligibility Test. Her achievement has been featured in the documentary of Integrated Tribal Development Programme. Dinakar too, had come up the hard way. But, he made it to higher education, proving that nothing could stop one from fulfilling one’s aim, if the path is genuine.
