Mangalore: The Ladygoschen Hospital in Mangalore has a history of over 160 years and has been a ray of hope for women not only from DK district but also from neighboring districts. But today, this hospital is facing problems for want of space, ever since it has been shifted to an adjacent building after the main building was demolished to facilitate construction of a modern six floor building for the hospital.
In fact, the foundation for the project was laid months ago after an Andhra entrepreneur who runs a Trust, assured funds for the hospital building in memory of his deceased daughter. The entrepreneur, it is said came forward to help following a request from deputy speaker Yogish Bhat. Soon the old building was demolished to construct a new one. But, nothing happened and it is said that the Andhra entrepreneur who had promised funds has not extended any help, landing the authorities here in lurch, while patients visiting the hospital are greatly inconvenienced for want of space. Still the staff here somehow manage to do their best.
The authorities however sing the same old tune that the new building would come up shortly while the fact was that in its old building constructed during British times, the hospital was functioning quite efficiently as it availed the services of doctors from the KMC as per an agreement with the institutions. It had also proved a training ground for students of around 15 nursing institutes in and around Mangalore.
