Mangalore : A 300 metre long Jetty has been proposed to be built on the northern side of the old Mangalore harbour, on the specific request of Lakshadweep bound Tourists, local people and traders who carry goods. The Lakshadweep( a thousand islands) are nearer to Mangalore and frequented by launches, boats and ships carrying passengers and goods both ways.
The Laccadives is a Union territory with an MP in the Lok Sabha. The administration had asked for a special Jetty to streamline its traffic, as such the Government prepared an estimate of Rs40 crores to be spent on the project.
The Jetty will have additional facilities like a lounge, seating capacity for 50 tourists, large warehouses to contain sale goods and so on. The cost will be borne by the islands administration wholly. Karnataka will execute the project, with an infrastructure. Several boats could be cleared easily once the Jetty is ready.
