Mangaluru : As many as Thirteen persons have been arrested on the charge of creating fake documents to effect a land sale to Amarnath Sorake, a close relative of Urban Development Minister Vinaykumar Sorake. The land was sold after one among them impersonated the land owner.
Abhinay Sorake, son of Dr. Amarnath Sorake, president of the Karnataka Educational and Charitable Trust that runs SCS Hospital in Bendorewell, has said in a complaint that he wanted to purchase land for commercial use. Dr. Amarnath Sorake and Dr. Abhinay Sorake expressed their intention to Rabiyat, a resident of Todar Gundi.
Rabiyat took the two to a vacant 3.36 acre land in Pachchanady that was owned by Victor Olio Fernandes. When Dr. Amarnath Sorake and Dr. Abhinay Sorake expressed their keenness to purchase the property, they were shown documents and were also introduced to a person who claimed to be Mr. Fernandes. As many as 13 persons, including an advocate Arun Bangera, confirmed the identity of the person as the land owner. The two then purchased the land for Rs. 2.51 crore.
On April 15, when the two went to see the land, they were confronted by Victor Olio Fernandes, the actual land owner, who is a resident of Kerala. After the identity of Mr. Fernandes was confirmed, Dr. Abhinay Sorake filed a complaint with the Urwa police.
The police earlier arrested Praveen from Kavoor, Alphonso M. D’Souza from Kulashekar, Jeevan Das Shetty from Vamanjoor, Paul Montero from Pajir and Vijesh Roshan from Naguri, Satish R.K from Kanduka, Balachandar Shetty from Kotekar, Udayakumar, Gopinath, Harish Tolar on the charge of creating fake identification documents such as voter ID card and PAN card and other documents. The police said Paul Montero impersonated Mr. Fernandes. Three more persons were arrested on Friday.
