Mangalore: Mangalore Bar Association President SP Chengappa has said that the Association was strongly against the several Bills which the Human Resource Ministry is likely to place before the Parliament.
Members of the Mangalore Bar Association will boycott Court proceedings on July 11 and 12 and will also hold a protest on July 11 in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the city against the central government’s decision to bring the Advocates Act (1961) under the purview of Higher Education and Research Bill 2011 and five other Bills.
A procession will also be taken out from the court premises to the DC office.
Speaking to reporters, he said several Bills and acts including the National Accreditation Regulatory Authority for Higher Educational Institution Act 2010 ; Foreign Educational Institution Regulation of Entry and Operation Bill 2010; The Prohibition of Unfair Practices in Higher Educational Institution Bill 2010; The National Law Schools Bill 2011 ; The Motor Vehicle Amendment act 2011 were against the interests of the lawyers fraternity.
He termed the proposed Higher Education and Research Bill as “draconian, unconstitutional and undemocratic.”
General Secretary of Mangalore Bar Council Ganesh Shenoy and Treasurer B Vittal Rai were also present.
