Mangalore : The special lecture on the topic ‘The Interface Between Development and Ecology: Conflict and Cooperation’ was organized by Hosatu (Bangalore) in association with M S Krishnan Memorial Trust (Bangalore) and Samadarshi Vedike (Mangalore), as a part of B V Kakkilaya Inspired Orations 2014 at Mangalagangothri on August 22, Friday.
Delivering the lecture, Jawararlal Nehru University (New Delhi) Professor Emeritus Amit Bhaduri said the ecology has been destroyed in the process of Capitalism and liberalization in India’s policy.
He also said that the corporate sector has increased its GDP but destroys livelihood through jobs. India and China have witnessed positive growth in GDP, since their job growth rate is comparatively low.
Mr Baduri said that the government has made land acquisition bills more favourable to businesses, giving a difficult situation to the poor.
Prof Bhaduri stated that politicians have always maintained international standards in Indian market to increase exports. The government being more favourable to capitalist class and this is being done with the notion of national development.
Prof Shripathi Kalluraya and Prof Surendra Rao were present.
