Dr. Satish Gowda Welcomed the for third Lecture Series of Vichara Kalarava. The topic of the session was Social Justice Under the Constitution of India>
H.N.Nagamohan said that “we cannot understand the Indian Constitution without understanding India”. he spoke about unemployment, homeless, landless and classes(upper class and lower class) and he also mentioned that, at the time of Independence India was suffering from Partialisam. He mentioned about how the caste system affected the people in ancient times and how shudras and the untouchables were kept away and were not allowed to participate in anything.
Further, he said that Reservation alone is not social justice and Social justice is not only about reservation. Further, Judiciary has not been fully involved in implementing the policy of social justice. Because of outsourcing and contractual type of employment especially in in government sectors defeated the very objectives of reservation which is a violation of Social justice. Social justice should be treated as a part of human rights. If government is going to to privatise all the public sectors, what is the use of article 15 (4) and 16 (4) under Indian Constitution. It is the duty of the government to take immediate steps to fill the vacant posts of sc,st and obcs. Farmers were not asking for reservation because those days they used to give employment to many. Because of unscientific and unreasonable policies of government, today farmers are facing socio economic problems. As a result, they are asking reservation. it is unfair that Government of India provided 10% reservation to economically backward classes without constituting the committee to examine reservation policy for EBWs and also so, there was no deliberations and discussions to know about the pros and cons of the Constitution bill pertaining to 10% reservation.
Prof,Dr. Venugopal K.R.said that it is a time to all three organs of the government should collectively work to uphold Social justice.
