Mangalore: Legislator Abhaychandra jain has told the Tahsildar locally that as the lightning death cases were on the increase due to heavy rains accompanied by thunder claps, lightning flashes and sharp winds on the coastal region in recent weeks in Mangalore taluk, the taluk administrator should bring these to the attention of the state Government through the district officer(DC) to provide devices that resist lightning strokes in a system all over the DK district.
Six persons had died after lightning struck them, within the Taluk limits in recent weeks, it was stated in a Taluk Panchayat Tri- monthly(Quarterly)KDP meeting held on Tuesday, presided over by Jain(MLA).
The bereaved families have received some compensation on these deaths. Farmers who lost crops in 6 cases, have received a total compensation of Rs 7,464 after suitable reports were submitted to DC on such incidents of crops destruction, by lightning power hits.
In Mangalore and Moodubidri, 3 houses each were affected by heavy rains. All these cases were compensated suitably with Rs.1.5 lakhs and Rs.45,000 respectively in total.
In Mangalore 141 houses and in Moodubidri 27 houses were partially ruined. A sum of Rs.2.75 lakhs and Rs. 36,700 respectively, were paid out in compensation to the affected, said Tahsildar Muralidhar, participating in the TP quarterly review meeting on Tuesday.
