Hemmady: A male Cheetah that had accidentally come out of forest straying to nearby town Nagur, fell into a trap and was caught by forest officials near Halagiri-Byatrahaklu on Thursday, Dec 29 in an attempt to save it.
Women Collecting wood in a cashew plantation at Halageri saw the leopard struggling in a rope tightened round its neck, in fright, went up a tree to escape.
The Byndoor forest department officials on receiving the news, came with nets and a big cage. As they could not catch the animal, experts from Pilikula sanctuary were called in.
They administered medical injections and caught the leopard.
Byndoor police were called in to control excited crowds at the village. Cheetah is quite healthy.
