Chikkamagalur : Those who live near forests have to face wild animals and those that reside in market areas have to hear sounds, an adage says. The Lakkavalli Bhadra sanctuary near here has, if you don’t mind, leopards, and not elephants which destroy green gardens.
But on Wednesday evening a herd (or pack) of leopards stormed on residential areas on the edge of Bhadra Sanctuary, looking for bite, and killed on ITI student Vishwa (18), the rustics told here. There were three beasts in a pack, they added.
The unfortunate boy(Vishwa) had returned home at 3Pm from his final year studies in Tarikere institute. As he wandered out near the family estate, a leopard attacked from behind and dragged him over 50 feet, and ate his body partly.
His elder brother soma went in search of the younger brother but he was also attacked by the 3 beasts so he let out a wild cry, heard by neighbours who came running to the scene. The beasts fled then. On Tuesday, a local man subramani was attacked by leopards. The forest officials were duly informed. Angry villagers have set fore to a jeep of the wild life department, while subbu is in a city hospital.
