Mangalore : A lesson on Harekala Hajabba,the orange seller and an illiterate who was successful in building a school for children in his village, has made its way into the revised Kannada text book of I B.Com of Mangalore University.
The academic council of Mangalore University on July 6, Saturday,approved revision of syllabus for Kannada and optional language subjects taught in the first year of under-graduation courses. The lesson is from Ismat Pajeer’s Kannada work ‘Harekala Hajabbara Jeevana Charitre’.
Already his life and work are a lesson in the syllabus of Kannada text book of Davangere and Shimoga universities.
Vice-Chancellor T.C. Shivashankara Murthy said poems, dramas, short stories, and excerots from novels by writers such as M. Gopalkrishna Adiga, M. Vijaybhanu Shetty, B.A. Vivek Rai, S.V. Parameshwar Bhatta get scope in the text books,
Chief Editor of Kannada textbooks Dr Abhaykumar and Member Dr Sathyaranarayana Mallipattana, Registrar Dr Yadapadithaya, Registrar (Evaluation) Dr B Narayana and Finance Officer Dr Pakkeerappa were among others present on the occasion.
