Ullal : Rani Abbakka Utsav -2016 was inaugurated on Sunday the 8th May 2016 at Ullal. It was announced that there is a proposal to rename circles in the state, after Rani Abbakka and to include lessons on her life in textbooks too.
Karnataka Women’s Commission President V Manjula Manasa said that Mangaluru’s Pumpwell Circle and Bengaluru’s Queen’s Circle must be renamed as ‘Rani Abbakka’ Circle. This request was made after Rani Abbakka inaugurating the event organised by Ministry of Kannada language and culture and Rani Abbakka Utsava Committee. Also , She said that life story of Rani Abbakka should be printed in primary and high school text books, so that every citizen of this country knows about this heroic woman who laid down her life for her motherland. Baraguru Ramachandra Committee has responded positively, she said.
Women in our society have been deprived of education, food and health care. It is on such occasion, we must talk about women’s issues and celebrate achievements of woman and their heroics . It would be a true respect for Rani Abbakka, if we high light about troubles faced by women on this soil, ” she said, that even today women are not getting enough opportunity to prove their worth.
Minister for Fisheries and Sports Abhaychandra Jain said that it is every one’s duty to remember of Rani Abbakka’s sacrifices and efforts should be made to remembers her at all times. Jain, who represents Moodabidri-Mulky Assembly recalled the connection between Moodabidri and Rani Abbakka. A close look revealed, that there is a strong connection between the valiant queen and Moodabidri, since she hails from Moodbidri.
Various discussion sessions were inaugurated by Dakshina kannada ZP CEO Shreevidhya, while cultural programmes, were inaugurated, by Lions District 317D District Governor Kavita S Shastri. Karnataka Konkani Saahitya Academy President Roy Castelino, Health Minister U T Khader, MLA Shakuntala Shetty,and many other delegates graced the occasion.
