Mangalore : The Local fishermen under the banner of Karavali Traditional Fishermen Union, staged a protest against MSEZ and MRPL’s plans to release effluents into the sea through a pipeline on March 22 Thursday.
The fishermen during the protest said that proposed pipeline on grounds throwing waste water will kill fish and also affect their profession.
Surrounding the barge that was anchored B. K. Boloor, the president of the Karavali Traditional Fishermen’s Union said that the proposed pipeline, will have an adverse effect on life of around 5000 fishermen.
He also said that the number of traditional fishing boats along the Baikampady – Suratkal coastline has reduced due to the sewage released by MCF, MRPL, BAFF, KIOCL, and others into the sea, but unfortunately the district administration is not taking any action against them.
He also, said that the fishermen’s unions will hold an intense protest if the pipeline is laid as proposed.
Union leaders Vaman Amin and Raghunath Poojary and others, were present.
