Udupi : Jana Jagruti Samiti, JDS members and a large group of villagers of Yellur and Nandikur surrounded some officials of Udupi Power Corporation and other departments who were trying to conduct a survey of fertilize land in and around their areas to set up a High Tension Power connection from Nandikur to Padoor.
The surveyors had allegedly cut down some trees without prior permission from the land lords concerned and also, not paying any compensation for cutting the tress down to conduct their survey for establishing new power connections.
Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake of Udupi was passing through in his car, when the irate villagers surrounded the car and told the minister to prevent the surveyors from doing their harmful work. The Minister told the Government officials who were conducting the survey to stop the work and seek the permission of relevant panchayat before they could continue their work.
JDS local leader, Deviprasad Shetty who was among the protesters warned the Minister that the agitation would be intensified if the officials continued with high tension power survey that could disturb fertilize lands over hundreds of acres.
Arun Shetty Padooru, Pravin Kumar Gurme, Lawrence Fernandes, Nithyananda Shetty Belapu, former Belapu, Niranjan Shetty, Yogish Rai, Jagadish Arasa, Ranganatha Shetty Kalathur, Shivananda Kotian, Dhiraj Shetty, Anil Kumar and others were among the protesters against the HTP Survey.
