Mangalore : The resident of Jeppu and Cascia area including other senior citizens under the leadership of the Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike, staged a Rasta Roko on October 19, Sunday to safeguard public ground from being encroached by the builder.

According to locals, the ground is located close by Cascia Church was declared a public land for recreational purposes by its owner Annie Mascarenhas years ago and now it is known that some builder has illegally acquired it.

They also informed that they have even seen the land documents which mentioned it as a recreation land and now the builder has manipulated records to own the land.
It is learnt that the children have been using the ground to play and also to hold cultural programmes.

As part of the agitation, the locals also played cricket on the road as part of the agitation.

Vedike president Yogish Shetty, said that he would take the issue to Deputy Commissioner and would file an RTI application to get the records.
