Mangalore : The village accountant of Pavoor was trapped by Lokayukta sleuths while accepting bribe from an applicant for death certificates on January 2, Wednesday.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by one Rithesh Rai of Killur of Pavoor village who had applied for the death certificates of 20 persons which he needed to transfer the rights of a land to his name. It is said the village accountant J Ningesh of Hoovinahadagali demanded a bribe of Rs 5000, but later reduced the amount to Rs 3000. Rithesh complained to the Lokayukta which directed him to hand over currency notes smeared with chemical to the VA. As soon as the VA accepted the cash, he was trapped.
The arrest took place at the directions of Lokayukta DySP P Vittaldasa Rai and SP Mohandas.
