Mangalore : The Lokayukta police caught a second division clerk of registration department red handed when he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 8000 on Jan 20, Friday.
David who was working as a second division clerk in land registration office located at DC Office premises was caught while taking the bribe for making the power of attorney and taking additional penalty to complete the procedure.
The Lokayukta police had received a tip off from Ramachandra Bondanthila of Vamanjur, who had visited David to complete the pending procedure of power of attorney of the land belonging to Roopashri.
Reportedly, David has asked him to make a DD of Rs 32,000 for making the power of attorney of the land and later stopped at Rs 18, 600, sine the pending attorney work must be completed with 6% penalty as per the rule enforced from 1/4/2011, but David had demanded Ramachandra to give the cash amount of Rs 8,000 on Jan 20 in his office and in turn Ramachandra complained with the Lokaykta on the matter.
The Lokayukta team, which conducted the raid, included Jagamayyanawar, the Karwar Lokayukta superintendent of police; Deputy Superintendent Sadananda Vernekar; and Lokayukta Inspector Udaya Nayak.
Lokayukta official Udaya Nayak said that David has been warned before on getting some small complaint but still he has not stopped doing so.
