Mangalore : A senior jail official was trapped red-handed by the Lokayukta officials while accepting bribes from a person to permit an inmate to receive medical treatment at a hospital on Jan 3, Monday.
The arrested official is K. B. Thippa Nayak (59) who is working as the superintendent in-charge of the district prison. Later, he is scheduled to be produced before the Sessions Court today.
Acting as per the complaint lodged by Pramod Adyar, lokayukta trapped the jail official for demanding Rs. 1000 to permit an inmate to receive medical treatment on Dec 29.
In the complaint, Pramod Adyar said that he had visited the jail to speak to the official concerned regarding the medical treatment of Sonkra Poojary, who was been imprisoned in a murder case for the past 45 days.
The Lokayukta officials gave a voice recorder to Adyar and asked him to discuss the bribe amount and hand it over to the official. When the work succeeded, Lokayukta officials nabbed the official red-handed.
The Lokayukta team comprised Lokayukta SP Jagamayyanavar, DySP Sadananda, and Inspectors Lakshmikanth, Dileep, and Udyanayak along with 10 other Lokayukta officials.
