Bantwal: Due to excessive road traffic movements on the west coast region, almost daily road accidents take place on highways and within cities/towns these days, to the chagrin of all powerful police squads also on the beat. A motorbike broke down at Vagga.

On Tuesday afternoon, September.27, a student in teens (19), son of Prakash Gowda of Madikeri, a second year student at Adyar in Sahyadri College (near Mangalore), Prithvi, died on the spot, when his motorbike collidedwith alorry at Moorje on the Bantwal-Kadur NH.

The pillion-rider Ashith Rai of Bellare in Sullia Taluk was seriously injured and taken to a private hospital in Mangalore immediately. The joy-ride on Mahalaya Amavasya to Charmady caused this tragedy, due to negligence of 5 students on 5 bikes. The lorry was from Mangalore and met them at Moorje turn. The driver ran away.
