Mangalore : Pandeshwar Station’s women Police Sub Inspector Girija made an effort to give justice to the girl of lambani community whose upper-caste lover refused to marry her inspite knowing the fact that she was two months pregnant.
Raghavendra (24), who belongs to the upper caste, and Uma (20), who belongs to the lambani community were in love for nearly 2 years and two months. Raghavendra, who hails from Gadag, is working in a hotel near State Bank, Mangalore and Uma was employed as a sweeper in Kandukamane.
Though both were in love with each other, the boy’s family was against their marriage and hence  Raghavendra was hesitating to marry Uma.
Later, Uma sought the help of Girija, the sub inspector of the Women Police Department, who warned Raghavendra’s family to take strict action against them if he refused to marry her.
Then, the two got married at Mahalingeshwara Temple in Pandeshwar on Jan 3, Monday.
