Bangalore: If the government decision to cap the number of subsidized LPG cylinders to a consumer to six a year, has angered the LPG consumers, statistics reveal that the decision may not have the expected impact, as a large section of LPG Consumers in a year as more than 50 per cent of the 80 lakh consumers use only six cylinders a year.
Statistics say the state has nearly 80 lakh domestic LPG consumers including 33 lakh of IOC, 27 lakh of HPC and 20 lakh of BPCL. About 15 lakh consumers of the total 33 lakh customers of IOC in the State fall in the below-six-cylinders per year bracket.
Gas card:
Domestic Gas Consumer (DGC) card (popularly called gas card or blue card), which was widely used two decades ago, will be re-implemented. Meanwhile, the state government has no plans to provide subsidized gas cylinders to the about 75 lakh BPL families as that would leave a huge burden on the exchequer. The State has about 75 lakh BPL families.
