Mangalore : The Praja Vikas Trust and Gas and Ration Card Users Forum organised a public contact meeting at Town Hall on January 28, Monday to discuss the problems faced by LPG and ration card holders.
Clarifying the doubts raised by several participants, Deputy Director of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies Sharana Basappa said it would be advisable for LPG consumers to approach the department directly in case of any problem. He said anyone approaching the consumer court will have to wait for as long as 90 days.
To a query, he said there is no rule that a consumer will have to mandatorily purchase LPG stove from a dealer while availing anew connection. He also said that weighing a LPG cylinder before supplying it to a consumer is mandatory and said consumers should make it a point to see that the cylinders are weighed before them before supplying.
The problems of ration card applicants were also discussed.
Venugopal Shetty, officer of Bharat Petroleum, Dharmendra, President of the Forum, PB Harish Rai, President of DK District Working Journalists Union, Shashiraj Kavoor, advocate and others were present. A 14 point memorandum on various demands of the Forum was emailed to Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily.
