Mangaluru : A tanker transporting LPG toppled on National Highway-75 between Mangaluru and Bengaluru at Rekya village near Nelyadi on Friday.
The incident took place around 12pm, when the gas laden vehicle was heading towards Bengaluru.
Police said there was gas leak detected and traffic was stopped on the national highway as a precautionary measure. As the gas leakage was heavy, power supply in the nearby areas was cut off. Residents were also asked to move out to safer places.
According to police, officials from the gas company have been arrived on the spot to plug the leak.
“Vehicles coming from Bengaluru, Hassan, Sakleshpura and Shirady Ghat to Mangaluru have been diverted from Gundya. Vehicles coming from Mangaluru via Shirady Ghat have been diverted from Periyashanti and Uppinangadi,” police said.
According to petroleum company officials, everyday around 250 plus LPG bullet tankers ply to various destinations from Mangaluru. Around 150 ply via Shiradi Ghat towards Bengaluru and Tamil Nadu, while 70 tankers move towards Karwar and rest to Kerala.
