Bangalore: Senior Rajya Sabha member M.R. Murthy died in Delhi due to a heart attack in a Delhi hospital today. He was a JD-S member elected from Karnataka legislative Assembly. He was 87 and related to late leader S. Nijalingappa. He served as a Minister under Veerendra Patil and Veerappa Moily, before proceeding to Lok Sabha and also later representing Congress and JD-S parties in Rajya Sabha. He was regarded as key Lingayat leader from South India.
His body was taken to Bangalore from RM Lohia hospital where he died. CM Yeddyurappa condoled his death and said that the funeral would be held with state honours.
