Mangalore : Mahabala Maarla Congress corporator from 22 Kadri Padavu ward (ward22) elected as 27th Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation on Thursday March 13, he defeated Tilak Raj of BJP. Kavitha was elected as Deputy Mayor.
Mahabala Maarla was officially declared the mayor of Mangalore. His term will end after two years on March 12, 2015.
Mahabala Maarla gained 37 votes while BJP’s Tilakraj managed to get only 20 votes. Out of the 60 corporators and 2 MLAs, 37 voted in favour of Mahabala Maarla and 20 rejected, five were neutral.
The Deputy Mayor Candidate Kavitha of Hoigebazar ward secured 37 votes. The Deputy Mayor BJP candidate Poornima secured only 20 votes while five remained neutral.
Mahabala Maarla nominated the Deputy Mayor Candidate Kavitha of Hoigebazar and seconded by Pratibha Kulai. The BJP candidate Poornima was nominated by Sudhir Shetty and seconded by K Rajesh.
Two committees were formed after mayor election. Rajendra, Roopa D Bangera, Jacintha Vijay Alfred, Radhakrishna, Asha D’Silva, K Rajesh and Shailaja chosen for the finance and taxation committee.
Sudhir Shetty, Sumitra, Ashok Shetty, Appi, B Prakash, Basheer and Akhila Alva chosen for the health committee .
Ganesh Hosabettu, Naveenchandra, Ashok Kumar, A C Vinayraj, Praveenchandra Alva, Pratibha Kulai and Kavitha Sanil chosen for the development committee.
Vijaykumar, Surendra, Sabitha Misquith, Purushotham Chitrapura, K Zubeida, Rathikala and Latha Salian are the accounts committee members.
Mysore division Election officer condected election proceeding. Deputy commissioner B. Ibrahim and Mangalore City Corporation commisioner Sanady Ajith Hegde and others were present.
