Mumbai : Maharashtra power generation company Mahagenco has shut operations at its 2,340 MW super thermal project in Chandrapur district due to incessant rains, which has resulted in a flood-like situation in the region.
“Incessant rains have resulted in a flood-like situation in this district. As a precautionary measure, we have shut down all the units in the region,” a statement issued here by the company said.
The district has reported an average rainfall of 268 mm, it said.
“Since the demand for electricity reduces during monsoon season, we had already shut operations at two of our plants — 210 mw unit 4 and 500 mw unit 5 — for maintenance.
But now we have to shut down all the units,” it said.
Mahagenco further said: “Though generation has been impacted due to technical problems in the units as well as the coal handling system, efforts are being taken to restore generation as soon as possible.”
The 2,340 MW Chandrapur super thermal power station (CSTPS) has seven units—four 210 MW and three 500 mw.
