Mangalore : The Mahamastakabhisheka of Bhagawan Adinatha, Bharatha and Bahubali were held at the four century old Sri Ananthaswamy Basadi premises at Shirlalu in Karkala taluk in a grand manner on February 19. This is the first Mahamastakabhisheka for the newly installed statues. The black stone statues are 11 foot tall.
Devotees from far and near attended the function. The Mahamastakabhisheka was held under the guidance of Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Pattacharyavarya swamiji of Shravanabelagola, Lalitakeerti Bhatacharya Pattacharyavarya Swami of Jain Math, Karkala and Bharatha Bhooshana Bhattaraka Charukeerthi Pandithacharya Swamiji of Jain Math Moodbidri.
Prior to Mahamastakabhisheka, a procession with the utsava murthi of Adinatha Theerthankara in a wooden palanquin was taken out from Ratnakara Varni Vedike Sri Anantha Swami Basadi and from there to Siddhagiri Kshetra. The ‘utsava murthi’ was then kept at the Siddhagiri Kshetra.
As part of Mahamastakabhisheka, the idols were soaked with water, tender coconut water, sugarcane juice and milk. The statues were later covered with rice flour, turmeric paste, kashaya , srigandha, chandana, astagandha saffron, gold and silver flowers, precious stones like gems and rubies and finally with a shower of flowers. “Rajatha Kalasha”, “Sarvothabhadra Kalasha”, “Bhakthi Kalasha” and “Janamangala Kalasha” were offered. The rituals concluded with “Poorna Kumbha” and “Mahamagalarati”
Former minister was the chief guest at a religious meet held in this connection. Mahamastakabhisheka committee working President M N Rajendra Kumar, Aruna Rajendra Kumar, Surendra Kumar Dharmasthala, Gunapal Kadamba, Sunil Kumar Bajagoli, Ananthraja Poovani Kavitha Pushparaj Jain, Surendra Kumar Dharmasthala were among others present.
