Mangalore : Whole country remembers Mahatma Gandhi, a Father of Nation during Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanthi, but the people of Mangalore worship Gandhi giving him the status of God.
It is Brahma Baidarkala Garadi Temple located at Kankanady in Mangalore, where the marble statue of Mahatma Gandhi is placed at separate sanctum. Like other deity in the temple Gandhiji’s statue is offered pooja and worshipped with great reverence standing a model.
The statue of Gandhiji here is worshipped from 1948 and special pooja is being offered on days of national importance like Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanthi.
According to the temple management, the idol of Mahatma Gandhiji was installed by earlier temple management and followers of Gandhi. The temple is carrying forward the old practice with respect towards this great leader.
Apart from it, Somappa Pandith, a part of the garodi management has also a clay idol of the Mahatma in his house. The whole family offers prayer to the statue twice in a day. They have been painting it regularly for maintenance from 68 years.
